The General Assembly
AIDS

The General Assembly,

Realize that countries all around the world are having the face the major epidemic of HIV/AIDS. The UN has an organization called UNAIDS which is the main supporter for global action on the epidemic. It leads, strengthens and supports the prevention and transmission of HIV. The UNAIDS provides care and support, reducing the vulnerability of individuals and communities to the disease,

Is aware that it is everyone’s job including the UN to assist in making progress on this disease. This is a disease that can affect everyone in every country the same. This problem however can be greatly improved if not solved if the necessary funding and support is there. Many unnecessary deaths from this disease are present, yet could be prevented if the necessary steps are taken,

I. Expresses Deep Concern:

(A) As of right now there are only 28 out of the 191 countries in the UN who are in part funding the operations of the UNAIDS program. Even though some of these countries can afford to donate money to the foundation, there are still plenty that can;

(B) The funding that is being put fourth in the UNAIDS programs are good, but can be a lot higher. With more money we can increase the success of these programs, save many lives, and also make a much larger dent on what needs to be accomplished on controlling this disease;

II. Is Aware That:

(A) The UN has an increasing number of members;

(B) The UN has the most successful AIDS program and has made more progress than any other group in the past;

(C) Many people dying from AIDS each year could potentially be saved;

III Recommends

(A) That the Security Council and the Economy:

1. Strongly encourage countries currently not funding the UNAIDS program to start contributing there share.

2. Maintain the same if not a higher percentage ratio of how much money is going to the people rather than administrative costs.

3. Start an awareness campaign for what the UNAIDS program is, and what they have accomplished.

4. Setup a team that monitors the increasing funds, and makes sure the program spends it in the best possible way.
