Okay, guys ... I confess ... I didn't read Colossians accept in my own study 2 weeks ago (and I read chapter 3)
We know from the last readings that there is nothing we can "do", "achieve", nor "be" that will guarantee our salvation. (Romans 3:27-28) If God hadn’t of sent his son, Jesus, to die on the cross, we’d be doomed. Thank God for Jesus! We also know that in accepting God’s gift of salvation that our good deeds are nothing more than debts owned which mean the good we do, we are supposed to do it. (Romans 4:4). But never fear – we don’t have to be slaves to sin anymore because, we are saved by grace and mercy.
God gave us the freedom to choose between 2 masters: Him or Satan. And we are free to deal with the consequences of either choice. (Romans 6:23). So we can’t say God isn’t fair! Paul explains to us that there are two types of people: a) those who allow sin to control them and b) those who follow after the Holy Spirit. (Romans 8:5-6). So there is no such thing as neutral or I’m a good person so God will look over me. (Romans 3:10-18) We are all sinners in the eyes of the Lord and if we "put to death the deeds of the body, {we} you will live". (Romans 8:13)
So a Christian isn’t one who is perfect that will never sin again. He/She are those who have the Spirit of God living inside of them. After we accept Jesus Christ as Lord, the Holy Spirit can’t wait to get in us to start our life anew. There is no shocking jolt of electricity nor will a light shine down on you while a choir plays in the background. It’s a decision to live a life according to the Holy Spirit – which can be found in your Bible and strengthened by continually praying, keeping the faith, and finding a church suitable for you where you can fellowship with other Christians. (Romans 8)
