Doubtful look passes over the groom's features, and he turns to gaze at the horses again. Obviously covering herself in case of negotiations, he thought wryly, but it was an exhorbitant price nonetheless. He waits silently a few moments, as though pondering, whilst making some careful calculations. He could offer four hundred shillings, undercutting her offer greatly, but then, the two mares alone would be worth five hundred. The gelding, perhaps one hundred. The black mare would be lucky to be worth one hundred to most, with that leg, but as a breeding proposition, she was worth far more. Seven hundred shillings, and no doubt the unwanted gelding could be sold off, the extra mares too, if his mistress had no interest. that gelding was the crunchline however, unless, perhaps, he trained him as a cart horse...Groom moves closer to the gelding, wary of teeth and hoof, eying his form. Aye, the lad would grow, and be a strong one doubtless, though his nature reeked of cowardice. Still, the mistress required horses for carts, and he had been allocated the task of finding such, with a hefty amount of coinage. he turns back to the girl.
"Five hundred shillings, or eight hundred with that gelding of yours thrown in."
He had haggled before, easiect to keep your adversary off balance, requesting added extras even if not required. Besides, that gelding seemed a worthy creature, useful for odd jobs about the place if he came.
