Leaning casually against the gate of the newly assembled corral, the aging merchant watches the early morning crowd. He props himself upon one elbow, watching his fillies with humble pride as they cluster together, their heads lowered to the verdant grass beneath their hooves. The blue roan, Filigree, whickers and strays slightly from her small herd, leaving behind a strawberry roan, a bay, and a liver chestnut. The strawberry roan raises her head slowly, watching her companion mosey off. After a moment's hesitation, Falcon Song returns to grazing. The liver chestnut, Felisha, pretends not to notice the absence of her friend and continues to graze without pause. Fable, the spirited bay, appears to be the leader of the small harem. She observes Filigree's departure and trit-trots after her. Brushing her head against the blue roan's withers, she directs Felisha back to the herd. The old merchant twitches his snow-white mushache and tweeks his cap to people passing by, silently inviting them to take a look at his Arabian fillies. These fillies are highly regarded by top trainers. 700 shillings each.
