I think it's because some people get scared that someone may actually listen to the message/ideas of these groups and act on it and their little worlds may be changed.
I also think it is a natural reaction for someone who is in trouble and scared (as MJ should be) to seek, or welcome in, people who seem to be on their side and can offer comfort. Especially if it is believed to be a conspiracy against a black man. Which it may be, I don't know since I wasn't there.
One thing I will say about a lot of activist groups I have researched is that some part of their agenda (from the way I see it) I can agree upon. I just wish there could be an attitude of forgive past disgressions of others, not forget but to forgive, and be an active part of bringing a message of respect and unity as a human race.
