Our original culture WAS stolen from us, our last names are the names of our slave ancestors' owners. Most people don't even know the true contributions African-Americans have made to this country because we are only taught the European version of history in school. When I took Black History, I was shocked at things I didn't even know we had accomplished because I was never taught them in mainstream history. I didn't even know about my own people! Because both of these groups support being taught our true history and advocate that we finally get our OWN power base instead of relying on whites, I will never down them.
