Okay, it's getting late and I'm tired, one last attempt at forming some thoughts for the night.
I do feel that very bad things were done in the past, I said so much. As far as the government acknowledging it, it was acknowledged by President Abraham Lincoln. As far as acknowledging it with money paid by the government, just how much would be enough?
No amount offered would be enough to those seeking reparations, I'm pretty sure of that. And I believe you cannot correct the past with money, just like outrageous lawsuits.
Nothing can truly fix the past, money included, especially if the money is not going directly to the one's who suffered. If anything could fix the past, it would be time, and that hasn't done it either.
There will always be racism of all kinds, and white people can be discrimated against too, I know first hand. Racism knows no one color but people always think of it as a white Vs. black issue.
I live in northern Wisconsin surrounded by Native American reservations. Talk about people with a history, and with continuing problems today, and racism of their own, or people who's ancestors were not compensated adequately. Sure, they have casinos that make a handful of them rich. The reservations themselves are very poor, drug use and alcoholism is a huge problem as is domestic abuse.
I work in a state government run counseling facility that has many of them there for help. The Drug/Alcohol facility of ours is at least 50% Native American. I wonder if they blame their problems on what happened to their ancestors... I've never heard them say as much.
