Cin, do you really want to pay for the things that your ancestors may (or may not) have done? If we go back in time and I mean way back in time....and try to right all the things that our forefathers did wrong, when will it stop. And, what about OUR heritage; I am of Irish descent, and German, my Grandmother couldn't even speak English. Shall I pay for everything that the Germans did to the Jews?
I can apologize, and truly mean it. I'm sorry for what the black race had to suffer. But to pay them for their travails, I don't think so.
Truth is that would be like erasing history, or at the least changing it. History is what it is - in all it's ugliness and sorrow and really rotten, crappy behavior. History is what we learn from and vow to never do again. Some day when we are all gone from this earth our children and grandchildren will be asked to do the same thing; no it will not happen. And it should not happen IMO. They must make their way, but with our help.
IMO, that is the best thing we can offer the black people and other races as well. We will never repeat that mistake.
