Fan Accused of Starting Game Night Brawl

Prosecutors are considering filing charges against fans involved in the ugly brawl over the weekend at the Palace, and Action News learned Monday that a man accused of being at the center of the incident has been in trouble before.
Prosecutors say John Green is the one who threw the cup that started the fight at the Palace Friday night, and they have the tape to prove it. Green was caught on tape in the middle of the fight, and he will likely face charges for throwing that cup.
"Whatever they have on film is what happened," Green told reporters outside of his West Bloomfield home Monday afternoon.
Before his attorney arrived, Green also said that he was not the one who threw the cup that started it all.
"It looks like it, but I didn’t," he stressed.
Later, with his attorney by his side, Green would not elaborate.
Green says he’s a Pistons fan, and had moved down from his original seats to see Artest jump into the crowd. He also says that he himself was kicked, and that he had only tried to grab Artest around the waist.
"I saw the guy rush into the stands and try to grab somebody, and I tried to pull him off of him," Green explained. "I got kicked a couple of times and from there – it all happened so fast."
Action News has learned that John Green has had trouble with the law before. According to the Secretary of State’s office, he has had three drinking and driving convictions. Not only is he banned from driving, but, as part of his probation, prosecutors say he is banned from drinking, too.
Green has denied drinking at the game, and says he wishes none of this had ever happened. Even so, he has been banned from the Palace.
"I think everybody does things that they wish they didn’t do," he told Action News. "Obviously, if we could all look in hindsight then this world would be a lot better place."
As of Monday night, nine people had reported suffering injuries during the brawl, although none was considered serious. Five people approached lawyer Geoffrey Fieger and planned to file suit as a result of the brawl.
Prosecutors continued to review videotapes of the incident. They said assault and battery charges were possible, but no charges had yet been filed.
