 They are not owned by Geoff or anyone he knows. They are someone else's sites that they bought, in hopes to turn around and resell.

They might have bought the site names, in hopes that Geoff would run and want one of the names. Then Geoff would have to buy the name from this person at a marked up price. It is done all the time.
