Southfield: Fieger jury selection ongoing
Jury selection for the criminal trial of high-profile Southfield attorney Geoffrey Fieger is to resume in federal court in Detroit on Monday.
Fieger, 56, and his law partner, Ven Johnson, 46, are accused of making $127,000 in illegal donations to the 2004 presidential campaign of Democrat John Edwards, a former North Carolina senator.
As of Thursday, U.S. District Judge Paul D. Borman had seated 24 prospective jurors for the five-week trial. Borman wants to assemble a pool of 40 prospective jurors before prosecutors and defense lawyers whittle the number down to 16, which includes four alternates, so the trial can begin.
