Nathaniel Abraham's lawyer wants off case
Jennifer Chambers / The Detroit News
PONTIAC -- Nathaniel Abraham's lawyer is asking a judge to remove him from the criminal case.
Abraham, one of Michigan's youngster convicted killers, faces drug possession charges from a May 30 arrest by Pontiac police. His attorney Richard Morgan Jr. filed a motion June 19 seeking to withdraw as counsel in the case citing a "breakdown in the attorney-client relationship."
Morgan did not return calls seeking comment.
On Thursday, Judge Michael Martinez of Pontiac's 50th District Court will hear Morgan's request and one by prosecutors to revoke Abraham's bond and put him in jail.
Prosecutors allege Abraham violated his bond by making unapproved visits to gas stations and party stores during his home confinement.
Abraham, who gained international attention when at age 11 he shot and killed a man in Pontiac, wears a global positioning system tether 24 hours a day and is restricted to his mother's home in Pontiac while he awaits a court hearing on the drug charges.
Beth Hand, narcotics section leader for the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office, said Monday she filed an emergency motion Friday to revoke Abraham's bond after learning last week that the 22-year-old, who is allowed to leave home only for appointments approved by the court, is making unauthorized stops.
Police say Abraham had 254 ecstasy pills in his possession when he was arrested at a gas station May 30. He was charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance.
