SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (AP) — An attorney representing prominent Michigan lawyer Geoffrey Fieger in a dispute with the state Supreme Court says Fieger owes him $350,000, according to a filing with the U.S. 6th Circuit Court of Appeals.

Detroit lawyer Richard L. Steinberg filed a motion Sept. 15 with the Cincinnati-based appeals court asking to be removed as Fieger's lawyer.

"No lawyer should be required to continue to represent a client who jilts him or her out of earned fees, and cash expenditures, after years of demonstrated loyalty and devotion," Steinberg said in the filing.

"This motion is brought most reluctantly, but in the complete absence of any other viable alternative."

Another lawyer for Fieger, Mayer Morganroth, denied that Fieger owes Steinberg money. Morganroth told The Detroit News that Fieger regularly paid Steinberg, who recently demanded $500,000.

Steinberg was one of several lawyers representing Fieger in his attempt to force four Michigan Supreme Court justices to step aside from considering cases involving him on grounds of bias. The appeals court held oral arguments in the case Thursday.
