Speaking of us being an anti-gay socialty (from Diva's comment to the Amedure/JJ trial topic) I read an article yesterday that just this past year 770 people in the military were discharged for violating the Don't Ask/Don't Tell policy. 6,000 military personnel were discharged within the last 10 years since this had been put into effect.
These were not people who were running around rampid hitting on others of their same sex, this was just people who let it slip out one way or another that they are gay. Among the people discharged were hundreds of high ranking officials, and others who attended years and years of highly advanced training as linguists and nuclear war experts. 70% men and the rest woman who were discharged.
Even not being gay myself, but yet knowing people who are gay (and even if I didn't) I find this law so incredibly absurd. At a time when we need as many military personnel as possible, we are throwing them out for something that does not make them any less able to fight and/or serve. Ridiculous, it just infuriates me. End of rant.
