Geoffrey Fieger Talks about FBI Raid
By Christy McDonald

December 1, 2005
Attorney Geoffrey Fieger told 7 Action News that he is outraged about a raid that was conducted on his offices by IRS and FBI agents. Only 7 Action News had the only cameras rolling when the agents carried out boxes of evidence.
It is not yet known what exactly federal agents were looking for at Fieger’s offices, and according to Fieger, this is pure harassment, and he is being targeted by republicans because he is a democrat.
Over a dozen FBI and IRS agents spent 4 hours in attorney Geoffrey Fieger’s office Wednesday night, as part of a federal investigation by the U.S. Justice Department’s Public Integrity Section.
Fieger says they took his office’s accounting files from 2005, and her personnel records.
It is believed the investigation could focus on Fieger and his firm’s contributions to the presidential campaign of John Kerry and John Edwards.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the investigation was underway long before the conflict between State Attorney General Mike Cox and Geoff Fieger. Fieger, however, doesn’t believe this.
Geoffrey Fieger told 7 Action News, "I’ve done nothing wrong. They’re harassing the foremost plaintiff’s attorney in the United State. This is pure political harassment."
7 Action News reporter Christy McDonald asked Fieger if there was anything in his donation to the campaign, or the donation of his colleagues, that could be construed as illegal.
According to Fieger, "No. That was the problem here. You can’t name an investigation where 100 FBI agents have ever investigated campaign donations of a presidential campaign several years ago. I mean, we’re talking about very small contributions. The donations given by my firm, people in my firm, we’re not talking about a lot of money here. There’s federal limits on everything."
Fieger went on to say, "I don’t know [how much money was donated.] But it’s very small."
7 Action News hopes to learn more about specific allegations that are being levied against Geoffrey Fieger. Stay tuned to 7 Action News for more information as it becomes available.
