Stella,

Below is my personal experience.

I was a short-distance runner starting from secondary school. In 2000 and 2001, it was the first and second time I joined the Hong Kong Standard Chartered Marathon. I trained very hard and got injury in 2000's race but I joined the second time in 2001 and got quite satisfactory result. Last year (2003), I joined with Patrick and Maggie (even I did not formally apply it) for the first Half-Marathon in my life but I was quite hungry in the last 5-6 km. However, it was a very good experience to me as I could know my ability starting from the basic to more advanced so that I could better prepare for the new coming one.

For begining, it is quite okay to join either 10km or half-marathon. However, I personally do not suggest people to join the Full marathon for the first time he/she join this event. It is because for many beginners, running 10km is already a very long distance.

Hope it helps you to make your decision.

Enjoy it with all of us.

Matthew
