Subject: Been bingeing on "Bones" on NetFlix.....

I know there were a lot of JAG fans that transferred over to "Bones" after JAG ended. I'm zipping thru Season 5 right now.

Took me most of the first 4 seasons to really get into Booth, and tho I will never feel the same about him that I do about Harm, I'm really coming around to all that Booth has to offer. End of Season 4 and the beginning of S5 really drove the point home, especially with the Booth/Bones connection. It was kind of like watching The Baby Deal, Adrift 1, Lifeline, Ghosts of Christmas Past, Adrift 2 and Silent Service all smooshed together! And unlike JAG, they "go there" with the relationship stuff. Quite refreshing after the "buttoned up" nature of JAG.

JAG will always be my favorite, but I'm thrilled to have discovered "Bones". Also, I discovered that David Borneaz's father was a local weatherman in the Philly area through most of my high school and college years (and beyond, tho I think he's retired now), so that was kinda cool to find out. They even have him do a cameo in a S5 ep that I never would have noticed if I hadn't been on IMDb earlier in the week.

So any Bones fans, chime in!

[> my daughter loves it - I watched it on and off through the years - loved it the day I saw betlway burgers on the show - just made me smile- and I loved it in season one when John Jackson showed up - the ep when he said don't let bones shoot anything made me feel I'd come home- but even though they skipped a big part of the relationship growth to fit her pregnancy in - I can't help but think JAG could have done the same darn thing - sigh -- chris k, 11:01:37 07/04/14 Fri [1]

[> Members of this board got me hooked on Bones and then Castle. I enjoy them both however they just can't compare to JAG. I don't know what it is about JAG, the stories, the characters, the fanfiction the discussion on this and other boards (during the show's first run). Do I wish JAG had been more like Bones and Castle with the main character plot lines - yes. However then we would not have gotten some of the great stories that took the characters where TPTB won't. TV watching hasn't beenthe same since JAG went off the air. Too many "reality" shows. -- usmgrad, 16:46:14 07/04/14 Fri [1]

[> Yes, I got hooked on Bones (and then Castle) thanks to this board. I loved how in the early seasons they always seemed to show Bones and Booth making some kind of connection at the end of the show. It seemed like there was always at least one shipper moment in every ep, unlike JAG where we would wait for weeks and get a measly crumb, Inside -- JJ Ronda, 10:33:54 07/05/14 Sat [1]

They handled the relationship so well on Bones that I was quite surprised at how it played out (or didn't play out for us) later in the show. Early on I really thought they knew what they were doing. Castle is a better example of doing it the right way, IMO, even though I'm not too thrilled at the cliffhanger we were recently left with.

I do like how there is never any doubt for the viewer that Booth is an all around good guy and will do what ever it takes to get to the truth. Kind of like someone else we know. ;-)

[> I've watched Bones from the beginning and enjoyed every episode of it. This is an example of how it all works and it's too bad that TPTB of JAG couldn't have given us some of the same. Castle will work, also, and the chemistry is always good. -- jenks, 12:29:25 07/05/14 Sat [1]

[> [> they work because the shows aren't about the couple - they're about other things and how the couple fits into it- the other things are like the cake and the couple is the icing - -- chris k, 21:47:46 07/05/14 Sat [1]

[> [> [> JAG wasn't about the couple either. (Frankly, it was about everything but..) As Mac said, "There is no us." TPTB put in two hot characters, and teased us about the ship, which was intensely dishonest just to keep us hanging in there. I loved JAG for many reasons, but without hope of the relationship, I probably wouldn't have stayed around for the duration. -- Cece, 15:51:02 07/06/14 Sun [1]

[> [> i agree, there were a million great stories to tell while they worked out their relationship. Where Bones and JAG were alike too was where you had a couple who viewed the world in two opposite was but most of the time found a way to meet in the middle. -- mkim, 15:55:44 07/06/14 Sun [1]

[> [> [> it will always tick me off that DPB never saw he could put the ship together and still have the creation he intended. The show would still be about the military and the law and the ship would have only added fun asides - but we all know DPB was vision challenged - :) -- chris k, 10:48:55 07/07/14 Mon [1]

[> My love for Castle has surpased JAG. I think because they are together and the push and pull on JAG just got to be too much. Also love that Castle and Beckett work together not on opposite side like Harm and Mac did so much. I do wish TPTB could have realised a show can survive getting the leads together. -- Hope, 15:14:05 07/08/14 Tue [1]

[> [> [> It's sometimes hard to understand why some shows get to us in that special way. JAG meant so much to me for all its faults and the disgusting behaviour of TPTB. (inside.) -- Cece, 21:44:46 07/11/14 Fri [1]

It wastn't just because Harm was played by such a gorgeous actor. I was a huge fan of Knott's Landing and watched ever ep, but I can't remember DJE for the life of me.

A lot had to do with Harm as the quintessential hero, and how damn good he looked in every type of naval uniform. And how good he looked in a tomcat, or in court.

But good looks alone doesn't do it for me, and there certainly have been better written romances. I was CRAZY about Moonlighting and watched the scene when David and Maddie finally got together, 40 plus times in a row. I was obsessed, and terribly upset that the show was completely ruined by the time it got cancelled. I love it way more than I love JAG.

So, why did I spend the better part of 10 years on JAG? It was a combination of things, and aligning of the stars so to speak. At the beginning I watched it off and on with my husband and would have dropped it after S7. But a funny thing happened on the way to Lifeline in S6. I found Maeve's, and some of the funniest women I've ever met. And a few months later, 9/11 happened and our communities were set. And then we opened the HarmyBoard, (Nov. 17th 2011), and the rest is history.

JAG became much more than a tv show with a hot star. It became STEMMING, and GLOODLE Aawards and Survivor, and IMing, and various Tarts, and cartoons, and collages, and videos, and fanfic, and fights, and fanfests, and friendships, and babies born and even friends dying. It became deep and long winded discussions, and petty jealousies, and spoilers, and nasty people who didn't like us. It was love and hate, and anger and kindness, and most of all, it became fun. It became so much to so many, and to this day, the HB is still here with old and new alike. All still welcome; all still special in their own way.

I know there are and will be far better shows, better romances, better story arcs, better characters, better heroes and heroines, and maybe even better looking actors. But for me, there will never be another JAG. It became my community, my own love affair, my social life, and my online family, and I'll never forget the wonderful people I met along the way.
