HOW ON EARTH did Fi get internet on a bus in the 90's?

Something that didn't really occur to me until over 2 decades later is: How on earth did Fi have any sort of internet connection? If I remember right She usually used the internet on the road.

For those of you alive and conscious in the 90's, you probably remember how limited and slow the internet was. The most reliable way to connect to the internet was by connecting a computer by wire to a phone line.

Mobile internet was sort of a thing back then, but it was painfully slow, VERY spotty, slower than even dailup, and it was rarely available. I can remember even in the late 2000's sitting bored on a school bus on my old Razr Flip-phone spending 5-20 minutes waiting for a website to load, if it even would. Mobile internet did not become even remotely usable until smartphones were mass adopted.

So what crazy supernatural theories do you have to explain this? Perhaps the forces of the unknown provide Fi with a reliable internet connection? :P
