"Ah, you ask of me a most reasonable question," Tevion's tenor languidly replied. "The collective knowledge of my people explains that we, the Everi, were brought into existence not long following the world's creation. According to the First of our kind and our deistic beliefs, in the time after the earth was born, those concerned divine beings and the land itself came into concurence that at some point in the longevity of the earth, there would exist such creatures that would bring harm to the world. For what would be a place with no conflict?- the unachievable utopia that is beyond the bounds of this balanced universe." His voice became tainted with bitterness; the years of rivalry had deepened his views on such clashes.

"Thusly, it was decided that although the earth retained its own powers, or magic, it was insuitable for fending off those who would pillage the lands. And so the concept of the Everi was arrived upon. We were formed from the Light of the earth by the divinity, giving us a special bond to it and our symbiotic relationship. It provides and we protect."

He turned to gaze at her, his aquiescence to this allotment in life purveyed in the cerulean orbs. Behind it lurked a certain sorrow clouded by relief, and perhaps confusion. It was a world of continual queries, wondering what he would have, might have been if left to decide such a place on his own. This led to a shadow of doubt across the entire scene.

"As it was seen then, the Everi should be immortal, thus preventing the fraying of and straying from our purpose across the generations. However, as death was the counterweight in the equality of the cosmos, we were given the risk being slain or wearying of our continual mission." An old, aching wound returned to him as he spoke these words, subsiding slightly as he continued. "Since created from a certain quantity of the land's Light, our reproducing compromised our other capabilities as our powers would be stretched too thin. So this cycle of a new life for an ended one seemed reasonable: maintain the natural pattern of life and death without severly subjecting our existence's intent."

The words were spoken somewhat in a mocking scientific fashion, muddling the feasibilty of his belief in their rationale. A silence formed between them as he allowed her to absorb the presented information and pass her own judgement on the fairness of the Everi's subsistence.

A sudden touch on her arm by his cool hand brought the enchantress from her revere. His voice, low and slightly hoarse from speech then sudden quiet, whispered, "I've given up on figuring out an answer." His eyes appeared transfixed on where he had ventured to contact her. "Besides, we cannot change who we are... though we may hide it."
