It was the coldest night in May,
and nothing could have consoled me,
except knowing that he loved me,
and holding on to the hope that one day
he might come back to me.
And so, that is exactly what I did,
for days and nights on end,
I waited, and waited, and waited
being smothered by the silence.
I'll never, ever forget
those early days of heartbreak,
everything seemed so mixed up,
as hours turned to weeks
and weeks turned to months.
There was so much hope, and so much pain,
sun when it should have been raining.
CD's sent,
his way of sending flowers,
I was never sure what they meant
but the music haunts me to this day.
Summer brought promise but so quickly it waned
Fall found me playing a game of hearts.
Old man Winter somehow outsmarted me
and I started this year with tears frozen,
to a frosted spirit.
January and February flew right by,
the first signs that the heartache is fading,
the tears have all but dissipated,
but shamelessly I holdfast to the memories
of those times that were so good between us.
