Said in a crowded airport,
that last goodbye echoed still in my ears
along with the roar of the plane.
As I watched it take you away,
finality slipped into reality.
I had you as mine for that brief while,
you belonged to only me.
The world was just us two.
But it was false.
My beliefs skewed by my desires.
I said out loud for the world
to hear it,'I love you'
and then walked away,
seeming to be strong.
When inside, I was building
my brick wall around my heart
cemented together with mortar of tears.
So no hurt could ever find
the door to open again.
I sent you back to your world,
knowing full well
how lost your world was.
As was mine.
But we had no map to show us how
to find our way together again.
So all I have is that goodbye
said out loud.
As I bared my soul to the world,
you turned away,
sights set on what was ahead.
While my sights were fixed on yesterday
when you filled me with desire.
Meteor made of three small words
destroyed yesterday's world.
Echo that good bye again in my head,
remind me of what was once mine.
Eyes dry, no tears left for me.
My walls are complete.
Only the faint voice of farewell remains.
