Is Florida Career College Involved In A Conflict of Interest?
Taken for a ride in Miami
Florida Career
College is a private, for profit, college operating in Southern
Florida. Over the last year it has experienced explosive growth.
Perhaps coincidently, David
Knobel, 45, of Fort Lauderdale, president/CEO, Florida Computer College was
appointed to the Commission for Independent Education by Governor Jeb Bush for a
term beginning July 31, 2003 and ending June 30, 2007. Florida Career
College has been aggressively expanding in Southern Florida. Conversations
with students indicate that the "College That Cares" seems to care
more about being paid on time than the education of its students. Students
late in making payments are singled out by their instructors and sent out of
class until payment is made, thus setting them back in their studies.
Florida Career College is an expensive school where all courses are six weeks
long. According to students at FCC, six weeks is not enough time to get a
sufficient, in depth overview of the knowledge they need. Some students
speculate that the school is actually a diploma mill which merely goes through
the procedures to look like a real school. No attendance is taken and it
is common for students to pass courses while attending only one or two classes
during a six week course.
Perhaps in an effort to sell appearance over substance, Florida Career
College implements a strict dress code for its instructors. However, a
quick scratch at the surface of this facade quickly reveals shallow knowledge in
instruction and/or knowledge of the content of the courses. Florida Career
College appears to be the McDonalds of Florida Education.
