[> Re: Doc's Roundtable - Nov 14th -- ghostman, 10:45:50am 11/14/05 Mon, [1]

Unfortunately won't be able to make it tonight but eagerly await a report on the evening.
Lets start a list of questions for Coach O'Toole and Gene Doris.
What's the status of Maxwell? Can we view the preseason all-conf pick as an indication that he'll be back come 2nd half? How has the situation affected him and his teammates?
Project the starters.
Report on the freshman.
Any surprises?

For GD/Pat Murphy:
Address WICC/SHU contract.
Address new marketers.

Unfortunately, I will not be able to attend either.

I am looking forward to reports on the meeting.

Feedback I am waiting to hear from the roundtable:

- Expectations on realistically where FU will perform during the season.

- Recruiting Targets

- Playing Holy Cross

- Possible cable contract to broadcast games locally via Cablevision (if it is in the works)

- Ticket Sale Numbers

[> Hoya Hoops Club -- Stagophile, 10:50:09pm 11/16/05 Wed, [1]

I like how Georgetown held a special open practice and Q&A session with Coach Thompson III for the Hoya Hoops Club, which is their version of our Sixth Man Club. You can review their press release and transcript of the event here...

http://guhoyas.collegesports.com/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/110805aak.html

But I had to post this particular response from Coach Thompson III. Can someone please decipher this nonanswer? I guess he is saying nothing so enjoy your session here and then get lost! :-)

HHC: What could the Hoya Hoop Club do to make things better ... within reason?
CT: It would be nice if we weren't waiting for volleyball to finish right now so we can get into our gym. The Hoop Club has been great. The Hoop Club has been great in supporting us, (Georgetown Basketball) down through the years. What can the club do now? You can look around and in some ways we are in a new conference. You're talking about the new BIG EAST. We want to be competitive in this new conference, and although part of what makes Georgetown special is the stuff we go through in order to compete, we're hopeful that sooner or later we can level off the playing field because it's not necessarily level right now.

That really is not a non-answer by Coach Thompson. In fact, that is a very polite way of addressing the lack of facilities in a major conference such as the Big East.

Read each line item carefully. He first references the fact that the practice is starting late due to the fact that they have to share the space with the volleyball team. He also points out that the conference is larger than ever and more competitive than ever. He asks the big donors to look around. Look around at the other teams and what they are doing to support their teams. For example, another non-football school such as St. John's is building a full practice facility.

Coach Thompson was not giving a "non-answer". He is smart enough to realize that he must take it one step at a time. Win the games. Make the NCAA. Make the case and grow. He asked the school o make a commitment to the program before he signed on... he is living up to his end of the deal. It is now up to the supporters and boosters to come through.

Renewals have not been sent out. For this year, everybodies membership automatically renews, but Lyons-Lademann is the vehicle to contribute to Men's basketball.

JoeStag, what is happening to the Sixth Man Club? You mentioned that the consultant's report was recommending a different format or way of doing things.

No update yet. The Stag 6th man still is running events (Welcome Back BBQ, Post Game Receptions after weekend home games, and Doc's Roundtables), but it needs to be worked out who is taking pledges/donations, and who is running the Stag 6th man. In the mean time, people should send their yearly support to Lyon's Lademann. I am still running Stag 6th Man events until a new steering committee is found.
