No doubt about it that Sacred Heart is making very good progress Athletically. Buts thats no surpise..... aren't they the fastest growing Catholic University in New England????? We can think they are going to go away, but thats not going to happen.

Its a lot easier for a Low-Major that just turned Division-I to reach the status of solid or good Mid-major...... then it is a Mid-major to rise into the upper echolon of High major...... There are many success stories of schools that rise rapidly from Low to Mid major status, and we do not have to look any further than ourselves when we made the "metoric rise in Division I". We did it so dramatically that a book was written about our "metoric rise" in the late 60's and early 70's called "25 years Plus 1..... the meroric rise of fairfield basketball".

We did it. Other schools did it. And Sacred heart will do it too, and we should support that, and take advantage of that.

But I do not think we change are approach. SHU has 32 sports, we have 18 sports and I think we should focus more on quality rather than quantity. Yes, we should bring back football, but I also think we should eliminate sports that we are not fully funding with maximun scholarships...... thats the model of a Marquette and other cathaolic schools that take the motto of only field a Division I sport if you intend to be the best and fund it fully.

I do hope that our Womens's soccer team beats the hell out of Duke. But I wonder if we give out the same number of scholarships in Women's Soccer as Duke. If we don't, we should...... even if we have to eliminate some sports.

QUALITY will get us to the next level, not Quantity.

I regularly attend sporting events at Sacred Heart with my cub scout pack. We brought 80 people to a football game last weekend. Last year we brought over 100 to a basketball game and 70 to a hockey game. The person who does their sports promotions is heads above anybody Fairfield has had the past 30 years. They put on a professional event, they offer very competitive group promotions. The are concerned about meeting the needs of our organization. In the past 20 years I have run 5 events at Sacred heart and 2 at Fairfield. Fairfield always charges more and does a poor job of supporting our needs.

The cub scouts wouldn't know a pro game from a high school game. The kids don't care where we take them. With the events at SHU being more professionally run and less expensive going to shu becomes a no brainer.
