MVS scores 5 points in 1st minute of game, and then does not shoot again.

Maxwell big foul trouble..... when he is on the court we must be a +20

Todd 12 points, Mamadou 7

Defense is letting us down. We are letting a 29% shooting team from arc get verrry confident.

Charron Fisher makes a huge play..... a basket and foul with :30 seconds to go from 1 down to 2-up.

Looks like Stags were up 1 with 38 seconds to go. What happened on the last three offensive possessions?

- with :30 secs to go, Charron Fisher drove to the hoop, scored and was fouled. He made the foul shot to put Niagara up by 2.

- Max fouled out on the play

- Stags had teh ball down 2 and Herbie threw a pass that was intercepted by Fisher, and he went straight down court for a dunk, butt in Niagara up by 4 with about 10 secs to go.

I thnk MVS his a driving hoop at the 1 minute mark that put us up.

yes, Niagara played very well but, we just did not execute down the stretch. Ugh. VERY TOUGH LOSS.

[> [> Interesting Stat -- Stagman, 09:08:41am 01/13/06 Fri, [1]

One of the ratings sites has a stat called Defensive Efficiency. Interesting concept, since it doesn't simply look at the number of points a team gives up, but how many points it gives up PER POSSESSION. This should be a much better measure of a team's defensive ability.

There are 334 D-1 schools. Guess where the Stags are ranked for this statistic? #331.

Please don't tell me that we are a better team without Deng Gai. He was our most valuable player by far. Not our best offensive player, but our most valuable player.

Defensive Efficiency(DE) = Points allowed / (100 possessions)

What a great stat. Possesion analysis is a great way to look at it. Here is what it shows as far as our offensive and defesnive efficiency rank for the last 3 years.

2005- 2006....... OFF=113....... DEF=330
2004- 2005....... OFF=174....... DEF=115
2003- 2004....... OFF=151....... DEF=48

What these stats show is probably close to reality:

- prior 2 years we had an average offensive team abound 160
- this year our offense is better and ranked 113
- this years defense is awful
- last years offense was good at 115, but not nearly as good 2 years ago when it was 48th
- They did not have stats from 3 years ago, but I bet it was pretty close to 2003-2004

We have to do whatever it takes to improve the defense, cause we are kidding ourselves if we can be competitve without it.
