Subject: Last Ten Seconds

Last night TOT had us foul on purpose twice with the three point lead, and the good news is it worked! While this seems like the automatic way to go in this situation, there are pitfalls if MB does not come through in clutch, which could have meant Siena with ball, and aprox. 4 seconds left in which they could have won the game without overtime. In my mind this is the best way to go (because we have certainly seen our share of three pointers go in to tie us over the years), but yet the stategy is not a slam dunk, as some may suggest. It's a fun topic, and I only bring it up for discussion.

Would have liked to see the foul a second or two later, but thinks its the right way to go. Its a bit scary though when Siena has to try to miss when we are as undersized as we are.

can you blame him for this strategy after he DIDN'T foul at the end of the Loyola game?! With MVS and MBell excellent foul shooters and with our proclivity in giving up the outside shot, this strategy is safer....

The Loyola game is a totally different scenario... in the Loyola game, we had at least 2 fouls to give! So when we do foul they still have to inbound. Last night, we're stopping the clock and giving a team that is down 3 pts, to cut it to 1 without using any clock. I don't agree with it at all! Thankful it worked, but I'm sure Siena was happy about the first foul with (I think) 8 seconds left. We HAD to make all 4 of our FT's to win.

Let's say we make 3 of 4 (which is a pretty good avg), the plan doesn't work.

With fouls to give you HAVE to foul. With no fouls to give I think you should only foul with less than 4 seconds left.

Good point, StagNation. There was some risk last night. Against Loyola, zippo! Unless, of course, you are foolish enough to make it intentional.

Both times, the Siena player was fouled at midcourt BEFORE he could attempt a game winning 3. Siena shot pretty well last night, seemed like a good strategy, regardless of the result

I would not have fouled with 6 seconds to go, there was too much time on the clock. If they they let a few more ticks go off the clock, then I would have been OK

The second time, I thought it was the correct move.
