Subject: get ready for a long night...

By no means are they unbeatable but there are many factors that weigh into what I expect to be a tough night for our Stags.

1) 16-day layoff - can you say rusty?
2) West Coast game - can you say jetlag?
3) addition of MD and MAX - chnage in team chemistry?
4) Away game. Always tough to win on the road.

I think we'll keep it close but drop number 8. Thoughts?

I don't expect them to win, but it will be interesting to see the effort they give. A 1-7 start, the bad Loyola loss, and the blowout to Fordham may have left the team demoralized.

Will they show up with great effort, and play intense TOT-type basketball throughout, or will they be pack it in if they fall behind early? That's what I'm interested in seeing.

If it is the former, then we have something to look forward to as the MAAC season starts. If it is the latter, this could turn out to be the worst season in Stag history.

I actually think that the gap between games and the addition of Max and Mama has been a psychological benefit. It has allowed the guys to reflect on and to put the first half of the season behind them, while the addition of Max and Mama will be a huge boost to morale. Hopefully tonight will be a nice start to the new season...

I agree this will be a tough game to win for all those reasons that 109 specified. But I also think if our "D" improves, then all the players will feed off that. Plus if everyone is back playing a somewhat normal position, then that could also lend itself to better play by others.

With the long layoff and new players back, I do not expect us to gel right of way, or Max and Mama to be in mid season form..... but I do expect a really good effort, and chance to win this game.

JS, even at this time of year, you are much too generous in hoping to build on "D" and "good effort" -- there is no silver lining to this year's edition of Stag b-ball. I think another long night (20+ points) with periods of play that make everyone wince.
I wasn't expecting much this year (.500), but this is getting worse instead of better. We average appx. 67 ppg. and give up 78. You could go on and on with stats, but everyone knows the old line about lies and statistics.
I guess what we need to see is everyone playing as though their scholarship was at stake and those coaching under the same pressure. No more excuses!!!

Northridge must be able to bounce back from a biting loss in a short amount of time and being at home will certainly help. Playing a weaker defensive team such as Fairfield will also help get the Matadors back into the win column.

Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Cal State-Northridge 77, Fairfield 66
