Subject: Misc Recruiting Stories

Here are some Recruiting stories where players mention Fairfield. Most are underclassmen:

Don't Mess With Fredette
--------------------------
Link below to 6-2 junior PG Jimmer Fredette, from the same HS as Mike van Schaick. According to the Aug 05 article "Fredette has received D-1 offers from Utah State, Fairfield, Providence, and BYU, all before his junior year in high school."

Melquan Bolding
--------------------
A highly sought after 6-4 Sophomore from Archbishop Stepinac in White plains, where TOT played and where Gene Doris coached. Bolding was rated #91 in the country as a junior before he reclassified to a sophomore and transferred to Stepinac. Sounded like he needed to get into a situation where he was going to focus on academics. Schools are starting to take notice of him. Bolding said he's holding offers from Fairfield, Florida State, Hofstra, St. John's and Villanova. Bolding also said he's hearing from North Carolina, NC State, Rutgers, UConn and Virginia. Playing hard is Bolding's trademark. Already blessed with a solid frame, Bolding isn't afraid to mix it up inside and defend on the perimeter. He knows his strengths will be his biggest role for the team this season. "I've kind of got to rebound this year because we don't have a lot of size. That's alright with me. I try to out rebound everyone anyways," Bolding said. "My defense has gotten a lot better, too.

ArchBishop Malloy - Rocco Rubino and Morgan Kelly
--------------------------------------------------
Rocco Rubino (6-2) and Morgan Kelly (6-9) are both juniors at Molloy in NYC, the HS that Gene Doris and John Carey played at. Both Rubino and Kelly have listed Fairfield in articles. Molloy also has Milan Prodranovic, who signed with Iona over us.

David Boykins
----------------------
Scout has a story on this 6-2 PG from White Plains HS. Here are some details on this senior: David Boykin had corrective surgery on his spine for scoliosis in March, he knew that basketball would have to be nudged onto the backburner while his body healed. No summer ball, nothing rigorous. What the senior point guard from White Plains High School couldn't foresee were the two inches his newly straightened frame would gain through the operation, and the rapid recovery he would make. Now pushing 6-foot-3, the lanky point man, Boykin, brings nice size to the position and a steady hand. He's a poised, composed first guard who sees the floor, can get a team into its offense, and distribute the ball. His length can also cause problems for opponents on defense. "He was getting looked at before the surgery by Fairfield and some MAAC schools, but being out the summer, out of circulation, he hasn't been seen," said Mayfield. "It's been kind of slow. West Point, Army, showed interest (recently). Hopefully, with the schedule we play, college coaches will come out and he'll get seen." "Right now, Albany, Binghamton, and Fairfield (are interested)," said Boykin. "I'm looking to get some more schools during the season. I'm looking for a place where I can have an immediate impact, a place where I can learn a lot of basketball, with good coaching." Boykin is fully qualified academically. "I already passed the Clearinghouse," said Boykin. "I have a 3.5 GPA. I scored over 1000 on the old SAT. I'm looking to study either business or communications in college."

Sign Rocco Rubino now! Add Moose Moriarity and this twosome will have opponents "sleeping with the fishes".

[> [> NJHoops - St Pats win's, Nono Stats -- JoeStag, 12:41:24pm 01/03/06 Tue, [1]

NJHoops reports the following:

Top ranked St. Patrick's went down to Metuchen tonight to play Middlesex County power St. Joseph's. The Celtics came out on top 61 - 45 in the battle of top 20 teams. The deep St. Pat's team was led by 6 foot 1 Jr. Corey Fisher and 6 foot 8 Sr. Yannick Formbour-Nono who divided 27 points. Fisher added 6 rebounds.

Would have been nice to get Nono wrapped up in the fall. hope in the spring he sees the opportunity for immediate minutes as a Stag.

[> [> [> Scout.com - Adam Walker update -- JoeStag, 12:45:56pm 01/03/06 Tue, [1]

Stags were mentioned with Adam Walker last year when he was with Christ the King. In a prior story, Walker said he was getting interest from the bigger schools, but he would not mind being a big fish in a small pond at a mid major. Here's is an update from scout.com

Adam Walker, a 6-8, 205-pound unsigned post-grad at Northfield Mount Hermon (Mass.) who played at Christ the King (N.Y.) last season, is averaging 19 points, 13 rebounds and 4 blocks over the team's first eight games this season. Walker scored 18 points, had 11 boards and 4 blocks against top-ranked Notre Dame Prep and also had 23 points, 13 rebounds and 5 blocks against New Hampton.

``With such a young team we asked Adam to take the role of leader ont he court," NMH associate head coach John Carroll said. "It is a role he hasn't had to take on before and he has done a tremendous job leading our squad."
