From Daily Gazzette
----------------------
Siena, though, hasn’t seen anything like Fairfield yet, unless it looked in a mirror. The Stags (2-7, 0-1 MAAC) are likely to be the smallest team Siena will face all season with a starting lineup even smaller than that of the Saints. "Fairfield is the exact opposite of Vermont [a big team which Siena beat, 76-65, on Monday ]," said McCaffery. "Fairfield is small and quick. It presses and traps, and plays with an incredible energy level."

From the Troy Record
---------------------
Securing another road victory tonight won't be easy for Siena, even though the Stags own a 0-4 home record. "They played Iowa tough (before dropping a 75-59 road decision), they played Providence tough (in an 81-78 home setback) and played just a difficult non-conference schedule overall," McCaffery said. "This is a much more talented team, and a team that plays with much more tenacity, than you expect when you look at their record. That is a reflection of their coach. That is the way he played. This is going to be a very difficult game. They play almost the opposite of the way Vermont plays." Fairfield no longer has shot-blocking terror Deng Gai patrolling the middle of the floor. Gai, who made the Philadelphia 76ers' opening day roster and is now playing overseas, blocked 13 Siena shots - one shy of the NCAA record - in an 80-58 home verdict.

[> Time Union story on Mitch Buanaguro -- JoeStag, 07:40:14am 01/05/06 Thu, [1]

Good Story about Mitch's career. Mentions the RedSea at the Meadowlands. But fails to mentions what I thought was one of the highlights of Mitch's career.... with Mitch on the Ladder at his 2nd MAAC Championship, all the fans and Red Sea chanting "Mitch is God".... wild.

"He pushed and drove the kids to exhaustion," said DeSantis, now the head coach at Quinnipiac. "But he changed the culture of that program. How could the kids not play hard for a guy with that much enthusiasm, who gave so much?" Buonaguro did it all with theatrics that came to define him as a head coach. After Fairfield beat Holy Cross in the 1986 conference championship game, hundreds of Fairfield students -- all wearing red shirts, which earned them the nickname "The Red Sea" -- stormed the Brendan Byrne Arena court.
