Subject: Message Board - Plan going foward

In order the service the diverse needs off all Fairfield fans, and to meet the need of more open disscussion with less restrictions, but also to do it in a way that does not unfairly attack people or discredit the University, I am proposing that we do away with a multi-purpose Message Board like this one. I am suggestong that we go to a Message board that will have both a Public and Private Forums. In addition, there is a growing interest in the Lacrosse and Soccer team, along with a need for Women's basketball to be discussed. I see a multi forum message board that are similar to what schools like St Joes, St Bonnies, Lasalle, Fordham and Holy cross have.

Here is what I am planning on setting up on a new site

- A Private Message board that will require logins and only be viewable by login members. Since the board will not be public, people who want to rip mascots, tuba players or whoever will be available to talk more freely. All Stag Fans will be welcome.

- Public Message for Men's Basketball board will be still exist to allow for a free flow of information about the program. This will allow outside sources to easily post info/stories on the progam, along with commincation about events, the team, and any other discussions. If people want to remain anonymous minanaymous Since this board will be Public the same rules and rigorous attention to monitoring will be in place.

- Separate Message boards can be set-up for Lacrosse, and Soccer to promote their growing interest, along with a Women's hoop Forum so it can be discussed separate from Men's. Since these boards will be Public the same rules and rigorous attention to monitoring will be in place.

- There could also be a forum for other sports, and maybe a Doc's Roundtable insiders forum.

IMO, the current forum is trying to be all things to all people, and I think it can service the needs better if split up. It also allows, a control over posters personally attacking people or discrediting the University in a Public setting. Stago, email your views on Xorbit, proboards or others that you have seen. My initial feeling is that a multi-faceted board similar to schools like St Joes, St Bonnies, Lasalle, Fordham and Holy cross is a good way to go for a lot of reasons.

Either xorbit or proboards are fine. You might want to ask GuyF how he runs the Iona MB.
