In reply to: JoeStag 's message, "Questions on the Fordham Game" on 08:00:20am 12/15/05 Thu,

Team put there heads down last night. Han who has been brilliant all season lost his focus during the Fordham run. Todd hasn't been playing more minutes because he has been forcing shots. He also missed to open lay-ups during the Fordham run.

This team was grossly undersized and overmatched. They could score but couldn't stop Fordham. The few times Fordham missed they got the rebound and the putback. Carter doesn't have the size to play against the big men at Fordham

There was a ref at the game that hates o'toole and he did T o'toole up, but there were no really bad calls in the game. The fouls were legitimate. The stags all feel they need to pack in the d in order to stop the inside game and then the opposition gets wide open three's.

Hanging their heads is not a good sign. And not being able to matchup with their opponent is probably causing each player play outside their role and their comfort and confidence level.

The defense has to be improved, and it sounds like "playing harder" is not the only solution. Playing smarter, and TOT coming up with a bettter solution is needed. It seems that we might have to play the players that matchup better defensively.

But IMO, TOT has made most of his PT decsisions based on offense this year..... that is a role reversal for him, as he has been defense first the last few years. I would have thought last night that we could have match-ed up better defensively if:

- Middleton was on Dunston
- Carter on the low scoring Binns
- Bell on the 6-4 Stout who was their top scorer last night.

It seasm that Bell did not start for offensive reasons.

Michael Kitts t'ed him, right? He did the Depaul game at Wake Forest the night before. He is also the guy that booted Boeheim for the first time in his career earlier in the year.

I thought that the team played very hard last night. But as so many of us have said there are serious personnel problems. When you put such a small team on the floor, you expect that team to be quick, but our 6'4" and 6'3" guys are not. Consequently they resort to reaching and grabbing in an attempt to stop their opponents. That is the reason that Fordham went to the line so frequently. I feel for these guys because I think that they are trying. But the talent gap and the lack of size is simply too much for them to overcome. Believe me, Fordham is a below average team, yet we were behind by nearly 30 points on our home court on some occasions during the game. The final score was not indicative of what occurred. I am having difficulty remembering a squad that was as flawed as this one.
