Subject: Plenty of blame to go around

It starts at the top with the Adminstration.

Besides the performance of the players and coaches lets evaluate the atheletic director, GD. He also should be on the hot seat.

This year, Todd and Bell have provided little leadership.

Herbie Allen looks promising but wants to dribble in between two defenders via his crossover move.

Han last night looked off.

Geoff showed some flashes during the game. The kid deserves a chance. He shows emotions which I like.

Carter and Geoff were never on the court at the same time once again.

I would like MOS to red shirt this season.

FU fouls too much because that is the only way on D they can stop the opponent.

JR played his best game of the year.

[> Who to blame -- JCM, 05:02:41pm 12/15/05 Thu, [1]

I am admittedly a TOT supporter. But Tim does deserve a great deal of the blame for not recruiting a big man this year. He deserves blame for not getting middleton more playing time last year. He deserves blame for not designing a game strategy that exploits the weaknesses of our opponents. Maxwell deserves blame for getting suspended. Hawkins and O'Sullivan deserve blame for getting hurt. Todd deserves blame for not playing smarter. He is a senior that should be showing leadership and taking good shots.

Yes there is plenty of blame to go around. But there is also a lot of season left for this team to improve. TOT needs to recognize where this team is and use this as an opportunity to develop Middleton, Han, Reedal and Allen. All should play at least 10 minutes every game.

Yes, JR played his best game of the year. He also made a couple of classic freshmen mistakes. He has a lot of learning to do before he is ready for prime time. Herbie Allen also shows promise but has a lot to learn as well. Han showed he was human last night, the kid seemed tired and frustrated. Middleton played with intensity. All of these guys will mature and improve and contribute to the success of the program.

I agree with TOT to some degree about not putting Carter and Middleton out there together. There are two reason for this. Both committed 9 fouls last night night in a combined 34 minutes. If they were both on the floor at the same time both would likely foul out and we'd have Michael Bell playing center. Secondly, neither has demonstrated much in the way of post play or offensive moves. Geoff can clearly hit the lay-up and 12 foot jumper. Carter can shoot facing the bucket. But the kind of offense the stags will need to run to win will require four people who can hit the outside shot. I think it is an offensive risk to have both playing together.

I am not as down on this team as everyone else is. If Maxwell comes back, I think this team is instantly better on offense and defense. They also will have improved rebounding. Mamadou will also help this team in these regards. I think the team will accomplish sizewise what you want with Carter and Middleton, without the offense or defense suffering when these two start to play. I am still optimistic about where this team is going in Maac play. I think they can go 12-6 in the Maac despite this start. It won't happen though, if Maxwell doesn't return.

Well I think the folks at the CT Post also should be on your list. Would TOT have had a better recruiting class in 2004 had he not had the investigation hanging over his head?

Wonder if Garcia knew how much he'd screw up recruiting by yapping to the paper. Probably not.

[> [> Lots of Blame but One Major one -- JoeStag, 09:48:18pm 12/15/05 Thu, [1]

I agree with all that everyone said, but the major reason that this team is where it is is because Max and MOS are not on this team right now.

Can you name 2 other player that we could have lost that would have been worse. We could have absorbed a loss of Todd and Han much better, or even Bell and MVS.... because we had depth and experienced replacements. Just like when we lost Gai and Todd 2 years ago, we replaced them with a former starter in Kudjo and Thompson sliding over.

MOS and Max both played a position that we were weak at to begin with. I just see us much better in a lot of aspects with MOS/Max/Mamadou than with Carter/Middleton/Reedal. How many wins difference would the first trio give us over the second trio...... quite a bit. I would say its a differnce between a 15 win team and 5 win team.

So the secondary blame is that we had no depth up front from not recruiting a big man in 25 months to keep us competative during this time.

That is no excuse for the St Francis and Loyola losses, but is surely explains the others.

[> Marty O'Sullivan -- SonofDoc, 08:30:04am 12/16/05 Fri, [1]

Anyone who feels it is best to redshirt Marty O'Sullivan had better be tolerant of losing and accepting the fact it will be a smaller, weaker team come MAAC tournament time.

We have noticed Carter and Middleton have not played together. Did anyone notice coming out after halftime they were both on the bench with Reedal playing, and Fordham promptly went on a 16-5 point run to open the half?

I believe they both had three fouls. TOT was trying to get some minutes out of Reedal so that middleton and carter wouldn't foul out. As it was carter fouled out and middleton ended the game with four. They need to cut back on their fouling if they want to play together.,

I believe that Reedal also fouled out.
