In reply to: Loyola211 's message, "11-22 St. Joes vs. Fairfield Recap" on 12:28:21am 11/22/05 Tue,

I can see both Max and MD starting when they are eligible. Marty is really a 3 and he can fight for time with Bell and Reedal. It's unfair really to put him at the 4/5 by himself. He's just not that kind of player.

The one ray of light, and it is a bright one, is Han. He is the real deal and may finish as one of our all-time guards.

Let's face it, though, it's never easy in the MAAC to recruit big men. Robbie was a work in progress for three years until he exploded as a senior, and he took a lot of criticism on this board until that time. Gai was an anomaly for us and the league, and NBA big man. And he too was criticized often here.

We can't call this a rebuilding year until we see what MD and Max can do together. But it may be a year to re-tool to get Middleton some minutes and watch the freshman grow.

In the meantime, we need a big man to sign with us.

I agree that when Max and Mamadou are eligible they both might have to start. We need both height and athleticism in the frontcourt and unfortunately we do not have that in the same body. Middleton can give us the size but he currently does not have the athleticism. But right now Carter is not giving us much either. And it is very likely that Max and Mamadou will take a lot of Carter's PT.

Usually I never like to give PT to a player, just to learn on the job, but under the circumstances this first semester, it might have to be done with Middleton.

If the current make-up of the team was even a remote possibility last year, why in the world did Middleton not get any playing time whenever possible? No way he learns sitting every game, every minute on the bench. Given the current situation, throw him in and let him take his lumps.

I have been asking this questions since early last season. I don't care how bad he is - he cannot possibly be worst than Carter.
