I know that this must be meant to make me hate all the Qs, but it just makes me mad at Guza, Pratt, and JFP.
Friday was one of the worst GH's I have ever watched. From Monica running straight to Jason (ooh, but please don't kill AJ ... duh, hello, woman, the guy you're talking to kills for a living. How about calling the cops? I've got one son whose baloney has slipped completely off his sandwich, and he kidnapped his biological son, who happens to be the adopted son of the biggest mob boss on the eastern seaboard. Um, my other son is this mob boss's enforcer. Could you please come to the Q mansion before my one son kills my other son? Thanks.)
to Alan being completely unable to see things objectively. I'm not saying it's okay for a guy to hit a girl, but I will say that no girl has ever begged for it the way Emily did with AJ. And she actually did crack him one. I wish I could've been there to smack her back for him. And he actually did stop himself. But does he get any credit from the old man? NO! All of a sudden Alan's off the AJ love train.
to AJ shooting Alan in the back. That was low. Shooting Alan in the ass would've slowed him down enough to solve the problem. Heck, shoot Emily in the ass while you're at it. Just to make me smile.
to Skye, who, like Carly, had a time when AJ was her only friend in the world and stuck by her when no one else would... all forgotten in the name of giving Michael back to the people who stole him first.
to Jason "I don't want to put Michael in a firefight. Here, Sam, you keep the gun."
This could have been a decent story about an intergenerational transfer of emotional trauma. Thanks to AJ, and to some extent Jason (for stealing Michael in the first place), Michael and Morgan have been set up to continue the dynamic of Alan and Tracy and AJ and Jason. I'm not sure Michael will ever be completely able to trust anyone, because even when he figures out that AJ lied to him about his mom and Sonny, he's still going to know that AJ loved him, too. Which means Carly and Sonny and Jason lied about that.
Could have been a good story. Instead, it was more of the same old zero sum game: AJ must be brought as low as possible to elevate Sonny and Jason as high as possible. What should have been an evenly matched fight among complex characters who are neither all good nor all bad turned out to be another lame-assed AJ smackdown. Only a playground bully would actually enjoy watching that, but we've been getting it over and over for years.
The only bright spot for me was the way SB and BW played the final confrontation. I saw sadness in both characters' eyes. Sadness and resignation. This was the inevitable destination. I just wish the journey had been worthwhile.
