I see what you're getting at here Hwaet! and I think that your argument makes a lot of sense. Yeah, I was looking for a word to lessen the confusion and try to get a more Girardian sense of what was going on in the Passion. I suppose it's harder than I thought! However, I think it's definitely a word to search for. After all, we wouldn't want to be trying to explain Girard and have someone completely misinterpret what he's trying to convey because of the terminology we use.

I had missed that quote that you mentioned in Girard. I think he makes a good point, and yet I'm also left looking for a bit more. Girard says we can't sufficiently use the term "substitute" and the word "sacrificial" we have to be careful with, but he doesn't really offer any term that WOULD fulfill what he's trying to say.

Perhaps I'm just trying to simplify the terminology too much.
