I have cousins who are "identical" twins but they are actually quite distinct from one another. When they were growing up, they were dressed similarly, participated in the same sports, and yet each was different in their own special way and I think this really helped their relationship from becoming too much of a rivalry.

They have both just graduated from college, one from John Hopkins with a Masters already, the other from Michigan State with a great job in microbiology. It's really funny how, while I still sometimes confuse their names, they no longer look like "identical" twins, and still have different personalities. However, it's also amusing to see them interact together at family gatherings because they still imitate each other in little ways, teasing each other and egging each other on in a friendly mischievous way.

I really think that it was important for each to have something special to them growing up. One had his excelling in sports and his car, the other had ROTS and his brilliant mind. I think this helped to distinguish each. I think that if they were too similar, great problems would have arose.

However, you could take the story of Jacob and Esau, two twin greatly different and yet the rivalry was great between them. Hm..
