Yes it is an outrage , bot sadly it is true. Another form of outrage in the Middle East that is sadly very common that avoids divorce is taking plural wives. Islam demands that if you do this you have to love the wives equally. Human nature being what it is, I think this will be impossible.
In turkey many students came to me for advice on matters of the heart. Typical example. University graduate enters marriage arranged by the families. The wife though strong and attractive is illiterate as were over 50% of village women in S.E. Turkey Husband after 2 years discovers wife can only talk about cooking and babies. Husband becomes bored. He comes to me. Tony what should I do, I cant talk to my wife. I have met this attractive intellectual woman who I can love and have intelligent conversations with. Should I divorce my first wife, or should I keep her to do the cleaning and cooking and marry this woman as a second wife. This was an actual case. The husbands job was an accountant. Note having more than one wife is expensive, husband has to buy two of everything. Why am I not sympathetic?
