Subject: Sweetest Day

In the United States there are many holidays that are purely to create a necessity for us to make a purchase and thus increase the profits of businesses.

One holiday that particularly bothers me is Sweetest Day, which occurs in October. This holiday was merely created so that men would have to buy their 'sweety' a gift, such as flowers, candy, or jewelry. Mostly men and perhaps women as well are required by show their love for their 'sweety' by purchasing gifts and having these gifts delivered to their 'sweety's' workplace or school so that she can boast about what a great husband or boyfriend she has. This holiday only put excess profits into the bank accounts of flower companies, chocolate companies, wrapping paper companies, card manufacturers, and jewelers.

In addition, how many special days to couples need? They already have Valentine's day, anniversaries, and birthdays. I find Sweetest Day completely unnecessary unless I find a job as a florist, card writer, or chocolate maker.

In Christ,

PECAS
