Big is not beautiful in America. We have a bit of a diet craze here, especially for a diet called Atkins, a so-called low-carb diet. In this diet you're supposed to eat--get this--almost all meat, eggs and such, and avoid things such as bread and rice. People, especially young women, are bombarded with the image of thin-and-slim-is-beautiful, so there is a high rate of eating disorders such as bulimia and anorexia.

John Edwards, to me, was a bit of an insult to my intelligence when he was chosen to be a vice-presidential candidate. The Vice-Presidency in this day and age of global terror and international pressures demands someone experienced in foreign affairs. Edwards was seemingly chosen solely for his charisma and ability to campaign.
