What would that something else be, and how effective would that something else be? This leads again to the larger question I'd like to discuss sometime: What to do about global terror?

My answer is to look for the roots of global terror. Actually I believe it is a psychological war. Fundamental Islamism is a belief system. Actually it is not much different from the fight against cult groups.

The 9/11 suicide bombers were indoctrinated members of a cult called AlQaeda, a cult that operates not much different from other cults like UBF in the way it indoctrinates the members. They have their hierarchy, they separate people from their families, they instill a doctrine into them, they make them feel they are "elite" people, they keep them constantly busy, they tell them they will enter paradise if they follow the instructions of the leaders etc. Of course AlQaeda is much more horrible and devastating than UBF, but I see basically the same patterns of cult mind control and group dynamics at work again.

You are speaking to someone whose confidence in the UN is at an all-time low, along with half of my nation.

One of the major problems of the UN is that it is a bureaucratic monster. I have seen a TV documentation how the UN reacted (or not reacted) in the case of the Ruanda tribal genocide.
