Subject: How desperate are credit card companies?

I guess she looks good on paper.

She certainly looked good physically when she was with me. She's sleek and just a bit muscular, but not too much.

And she had the loveliest blond hair, a bit wavy, but not too much.

But she's gone from my life. Another man -- a lawyer -- said he would take care of her. And he is. I'm glad for that.

But I can't get totally away from her. That's probably because I used to buy her everything she wanted.

Today in the mail, I see a letter addressed to her. I had to see what was inside. I needed to know what someone was sending to her. So I ripped the envelope open.

It was from Chase Manhattan Bank. It said:

"Dear Tatash Pego

"For a limited time we are extending you an invitation to carry the Chase Visa Platinum. It has never been easier -- simply respond by October 15, 2004, and you could be enjoying a wide range of outstanding benefits and features..."

Geez, she was offered zero percent interest on balance transfers. But she currently carries no debt.

The bank wasn't smart enough to dangle the treat that probably would have made her sign up instantly -- Milk Bones.

Yes, Chase was chasing the wolf-husky mix I used to own. It's a time when some good folks could use a bank loan and they offer a dog -- but a very cute wolf/dog -- a $25,000 credit limit.

I take all blame. That's what I got for getting her a personal phone. Bet my cat wishes she hadn't run away from home now. She would have run up credit card charges buying fish sticks.
