LAST EDITED ON Feb-11-04 AT 08:20 PM (PDT)

In an attempt to escape the heat of the San Fernando Valley, I decided to meet up with Chuam and try our luck at the pier. Unfortunately when I arrived, I found the pier closed due to phase III of reconstruction. On a positive note, the pier is looking much improved. From the look of things, phase III has the front of the pier undergoing comestic upgrades. A new brick wall has been erected, and the half of the parking lot is now paved with a new black top. They began this phase on July 8, and the pier will be reopened near the end of July. The sign posted read 2 and 1/2 weeks til the reopening. Since I still had an itching for catching something, Chuam and I walked out to the surf. Conditions were not helping as kelp was all over the surfline, and the water was murky due to the sand. As we worked our way towards the rocks next to the inn, there were some large sand crab beds. Although we did'nt get hooked up, we did notice some nice sized corbina working the shallows.

Tight Lines!!
