Subject: Assorted TV ramblings.

So, this week ABC cancelled FlashForward and renewed V for another season. This could serve as the definition of ass-backwards. V has been laughably bad from the start. FlashForward, while fraught with problems, not the least of which was the big midseason gap, at least was intellectually challenging, well-cast and well-acted, and it definitely deserved more of a chance. It was far better than the book upon which it was based. (Two notes: Joseph Fiennes does an excellent American accent; and whoever cast John Cho's character should know that no Korean on earth is named Demitri.)

My current favorite drama is FX's Justified, which is based on an Elmore Leonard story, and has maintained a perfect Elmore Leonard sensibility. Beautifully cast, perfect pacing, superb writing. I had never seen The Shield, but now Walton Goggins is my new favorite TV actor, and as always Timothy Olyphant is very easy on the eyes. Thankfully, this one has been renewed for another season.

Biggest disappointment this season: HBO's Treme. I would have thought it impossible to make a drama about post-Katrina News Orleans that is boring, but I would have been wrong.

Most highly-anticipated for fall: HBO's Boardwalk Empire.
