She suffered a broken nose, broken C-1 vertebrae and damage to the vertebrae T3-T6, some of which were broken. She also had a badly broken right wrist, several broken ribs, and a broken pelvic bone. Her right lung collapsed as a result of the trauma and she had internal bleeding, mainly from her liver. As a result of the damage to the vertebrae, her spine was damaged, resulting in paralysis from the chest down. She had a seven hour surgery on the Monday after the accident to repair the vertebrae and had steel rods inserted in the spine to straighten and reposition her spinial cord. There have been a few set backs on Wednesday morning she pulled out her ventilator when her sedation wore off. That in return caused some complications including getting fluid in her lungs (which makes them worry about infection). Her left lung then collapsed and they had to put in a chest tube. Since then she has struggled to remain stable and keep her oxygen levels, temperature, blood pressure and heart rate where they need to be. Due to the heavy sedation , the spine doctors are unable to further assess the extent of her paralysis or give any prognosis for recovery. She was scheduled for another surgery on her hip yesterday but due to difficulties with her lungs and oxygen levels they have had to put it off. She was doing beter today. They are weaning her off the oxygen and nitrous oxide that she has been dependent on since the accident. They are also considering lifting her sedation somewhat in the next 48 hours and are hoping at this point that they will be able to communicate with her. Brittany's father and brother were also injured in the accident and have been treated and released from the hospital. Please keep them in your prayers!!
