Subject: Pageant prelim info

I am very new to the pageant world, indeed we have only done one prelim for the cover miss pageant last week and was wondering about getting involved as my daughters seem quite keen. I am totally lost with it all, and need to ask a few questions from you vets! Do we have to have won a prelim to be able to participate in the Cinderella pageant? we live in Kissimmee and the closest one was Tampa but it has already been. The dresses all seem to be so different, National pageant wear looks like a ballet tutu covered in stones and sooo expensive? what is formal wear/ party dress /crowing wear /interview dress etc etc is there a difference in all of these? it all seems as if it would be very expensive to get into? especially with 2 girls! do they have under 2 year old competing at all?
sorry about the bombardment but I am so inexperienced. ebay have second hand gowns but my gosh they are $400 or so! any info and help would be appreciated
