After the disaster of their January sessions, the Beatles reassembled in studio two in the late spring knowing that this would be their swan song. I feel that the album as a whole is a bit over rated, but "Abbey Road" puts to rest any daubt that the Beatles are the greatest musical talents of the century and beyond and that they could still create as a unit. George Martins technical wizardry, especially for the time, is nothing less than miraculous.
There were still disagreements, however. John wanted an album of singles and Paul invisioned a bombastic production. George Martin found a way to satisfy both and still keep continuity.
Note the running theme that appears on "I Want You", "Because", "You Never Give Me Your Money" and "Carry That Weight". Ringo leaves us with his second penned tune "Octopuss Garden" which I believe was Ringos plea to the other three to all just get along. The pennicle comes with Ringos only drum solo and Paul, George and John playing dueling guitars.
When one listens to it more than 30 years later, one understands just what these four lads meant to the generation and to history. One also hears that these four, for the first time, really understood it themselves.
