a solitary building stands off the main road, its steeple rising up to challenge the skies and the delicate glass windows smashed in some places. it was rather foreboding, which was unusual considering it was meant to be a place of worship, a place to revel in the glory of a supreme being. its pews were old and dusty, the altar at the front old and the cloth upon it worn. the entire building looked as if it had been left in the middle of mass and forgotten for decades, brought back to modern civilization just now. there were no adjourning rooms to the main one, no confessional. the attic was unreachable because its only ladder was smashed by age-old vandals, and if one were so daring as to venture down the stairs hidden behind the altar, they would find it half flooded and rather musty. it was clear that the church had not been expected to last long by its cheaply furnished aisles and lack of craftsmanship. some house of god, this was.

the church, a dark place now where many creatures lurk, some holy, some the opposite, and some unsure of which side they fit on and wavering in the neutral zone until persuaded to pick a path. the church, where those who have seek salvation come to redeem themselves, to earn back mercy. though of course, not all are successful... one might find themselves on their way to meet the god they come to plead with if they are not careful... some who resided here were not as gracious to those who worshipped god or even to those who didn't. it might be easier to believe in an afterlife if it faced you down in the dim, desolate church.
