Date Posted: 17:43:43 01/30/06 Mon Creeeeak—thump, thud! Talitha jumped back from the cloud of dust that rose and coughed. The door, what was left of it, had fallen off its hinges with the slightest push. Well, so much for a quiet entrance. She stepped inside the gloom, waving her hands in front of her face to clear the dust cloud and any hanging webs. It took a few moments for her ocean blue eyes to adjust to the dim light after pondering on the church steps throughout the blazing afternoon. The sky was cloudless that day, leaving the sun's naked, warm light to touch the earth as it pleased. She had enjoyed letting her tan skin soak in the warmth while waiting. What she had been waiting for, only heaven knows! Yet, that was why she was here, wasn't it? Because of heaven and God and the strange vision she had. Something had been eating her nineteen year old spirit lately, and this seemed to be the only place that might provide some answers. Or so she thought. "Ugh!" She walked through a spider web. Now her skin was crawling. Rapidly brushing at her black hair, she resisted a small dance of disgust as chills ran up and down her spine. Spiders! She hated spiders. Cringing, she continued slowly past the dusty pews. The floor groaned beneath her boots. It was covered in a thick layer of dirt and grim, yet there were footprints all over from bold travelers like her. What had happened to this place? She paused and dug out a flashlight from her backpack. The beam of light chased away some of the gloom. It also made the spider webs easier to detect. Jesus loves me this I know... She had no idea why the song popped into her head. Sure, she had always thought God was real. She never really put much faith in Him, but she tried to be a good person. She had even gone to Sunday school as a child. However, after her vision, she was left befuddled. Everything she thought she knew seemed to change in a blink of an eye. And there was just something about this place... something that was tugging at her heart... Talitha shined her light onto the alter. The church was in ruins, but the cross was still standing on the alter. It seemed to be the only thing untouched by the darkness around it. A lump grew in the young woman's throat. Why was the air so thick here? It seemed so… spiritual. She gasped. Tears filled her eyes and the flashlight fell from her hands, clattering against the floor. Her knees followed; an overwhelming wave of emotion flooding over her. She couldn't help it, she couldn't stop it. The tears turned hot and she noticed her hands were starting to shake. What was happening to her? She wept as she stared at the cross. [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
