Subject: Galliagh residents defend homes & property

In the early hours of sunday 15th April residnts in the Galliagh area in Derry stopped thugs who were removing childrens toys & wheelie bins from peoples yards and burning them. In the process one of the residents was assaulted. They (residents) also came under a sustained attack by these thugs throwing bottles and other missiles. Threats to burn people out of the houses, and threats to kill were made by these thugs.

The names of these thugs are now known to the residents and the ringleaders who were from the Fernabbey/ferndale, Altcar, Galliagh and Shantallow areas will be advised that their comunity will not tolerate this activity and if they refuse to desist community action will be taken. Residents have vowed to not to bow to this sort of intimidation within their own community.

In the absence of a credible police force residents have no option but to defend their homes and property themselves. The usual ineffective local politicians & 'community leaders' who only come out at election time will as usual call for information to be passed to the ruc/psni this will not happen.

Residents have said that a police force that still harasses and threatens our community cannot, no matter what spin they add to it, claim to protect it. And the politicians that claim to represent us are no better and should stay away.
