My late Huaica had a split tail problem. The end of her tail was completly worn off. She came from Argentina that way -- who knows what happened. There were many times when she'd whack her tail on the wall & spit it open. One time on Christmas day at my parents house, she was in the hall & was very happy to see my brother. Her tail whacked the wall & sprayed blood all over the place, including the ceiling. Fortunately she had a high tolerance to pain. There was no way to stitch it -- it was like dry cracked skin found on elbows of outside dogs. My vet had suggested amputation as a last resort. I treated it with Bag Balm at the suggestion of my vet. The goal was to get the skin to soften up enough to heal itself. I applied bag balm daily for almost a year. She never grew hair again, but the splitting & bleeding stopped.
